First Red Bulb Placed on Fire Safety Wreath

Published Dec 3, 2020

A structure fire on the 600 block of E. Ten Mile Road represents the first red bulb on the “Keep the Wreath Green” fire safety wreath. Escambia County Emergency Communications received a phone call reporting the residential fire at 9:38 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 3. Upon arrival, a working fire was visible with flames coming from the back door of a single-wide mobile home with one occupant outside. Units M22, MC1, E4, BC3, BC2, E6, E7, L19, SQ3, MC2, M32, S1 and S2 responded. The fire was under control at 10:04 a.m. and out at 10:22 a.m., with the home deemed a total loss. One patient was transported to a local area hospital. The State Fire Marshal has been called to investigate the cause of the fire.

The “Keep the Wreath Green” fire safety campaign is a collaborative initiative with the city of Pensacola to promote fire safety during the month of December. During the month-long campaign, five-foot wreaths are on display at 21 county fire stations and five city fire stations, as well as Escambia County's Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building downtown, the Escambia County Public Safety Building, Pensacola City Hall and Cordova Mall near the food court entrance. Each time firefighters respond to a residential fire with damage, a green light bulb will be replaced with a red one to remind citizens of the dangers posed by fires in residential home.
