Escambia County is now offering 10,000 bottles of hand sanitizer in addition to face masks as part of the public health campaign, "Mask Up, Escambia!" The campaign, which began July 1, is focused on informing residents and visitors that masks are recommended by the CDC to protect others. In addition to the 2 ounce hand sanitizer bottle, the public may continue to pick up a free mask while supplies last.

Escambia County Corrections will stagger the redeployment of work annex staff and inmate work crews beginning Tuesday, July 28. All six departments, including Roads, Waste Services, Parks, Facilities, Code Enforcement and Animal Services will recover a portion of the normal inmate work crews as staffing allows. The redeployment timeline may be accelerated or delayed based on the rate of return of staff to duty and the availability of inmate crews medically cleared for work.

Escambia County’s sea turtle nesting season has just passed its halfway mark, with a total of 17 nests located on Perdido Key and Pensacola Beach. Fifteen nests are Loggerhead, typically the most common turtle to county beaches, but two rare Kemp’s Ridley turtle have also nested on county beaches this year.

Escambia County collected and disposed of approximately 78 tons (156,000 pounds) of debris during the District 3 Englewood/Ebonwood Cleanup in July, as part of the county's ongoing effort to help keep local neighborhoods and communities clean and safe. The event allowed residents to leave items at the curb to be disposed of free of charge by the county and partnering agencies.
