This week, the Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals transported 33 cats from Terrebonne Parrish Animal Shelter and 25 cats from Louisiana SPCA to the Escambia County Animal Shelter. Several cats have also been placed with the Pensacola Human Society through a coordinated effort.

The Escambia County Board of Commissioners will hold several meetings Thursday, Sept. 3. Agenda Review will begin at 9 a.m., and Public Forum will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by the BCC Regular Meeting at 5:30 p.m. All meetings will take place in the board chambers of the Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building, found on the first floor of 221 Palafox Place. Escambia County and the City of Pensacola are jointly participating in the Coronavirus Relief Funds made available by Florida Housing Finance Corporation. Approximately $813,451 will be made available Tuesday, Sept. 1 to assist eligible applicants impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic with rent, mortgage, and/or utility assistance.

Escambia County Corrections received a positive COVID-19 test result at the work annex, formerly known as the road prison. As a precaution, Escambia County will suspend road crew operations that provide services throughout the county for a second time. These services include, but are not limited to, grounds keeping throughout the county and support to the landfill, animal services, code enforcement and fleet maintenance.
