    As colder weather starts to set in, Escambia County would like to encourage residents to practice space heater safety and know the potential risks associated with home heating equipment. Home fires occur more in the winter months than any other time of year. According to the National Fire Protection Association, heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fire deaths and space heaters account for 4 out of 5 home heating fire deaths.

  • SBA Temporarily Closing Escambia County Business Recovery Center Through Nov. 4

    The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced it is temporarily closing the Business Recovery Center located in the East Pensacola Heights Clubhouse in Pensacola. The Center closed for SBA disaster assistance at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, and will reopen to resume its regular operations at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5. The facility will be used as a polling place for the election.

  • UF/IFAS Extension Annual Peanut Butter Challenge in Full Swing

    If you want to help feed the hungry in Florida’s Panhandle this year, you can donate peanut butter during the annual Peanut Butter Challenge, coordinated by UF/IFAS Extension. Through this annual challenge, local food pantries will receive thousands of jars of donated peanut butter which will be used to help support communities recovering from Hurricane Sally.

  • Ferry Pass Neighborhood Cleanup Collects 47 Tons of Debris

    Escambia County collected and disposed of more than 47 tons (94,000 pounds) of debris during the District 4 Ferry Pass Neighborhood Cleanup in October, as part of the county's ongoing effort to help keep local neighborhoods and communities clean and safe. The event allowed residents to leave items at the curb to be disposed of free of charge by the county and partnering agencies. The District 4 Ferry Pass Neighborhood Cleanup on Oct. 14 saw great participation from residents with 45 tons of bulk waste, 114 tires and 3,400 pounds of household hazardous waste placed at curbside for pickup.

    Florida Panhandle residents who have uninsured losses resulting from Hurricane Sally have until Dec. 1, 2020 to register with FEMA for disaster assistance. One month after residents in five counties became eligible for federal disaster assistance, more than $94 million has been approved in federal grants, loans and flood insurance payments.
