Escambia County to Receive National Award for COVID-19 Public Relations Campaign

Escambia County is pleased to announce that we are a finalist in the 3CMA 2021 Savvy Awards competition and a candidate for one of the three awards (Savvy, Silver Circle or Award of Excellence in the category, Digital Interactive - COVID-19 PR Campaign (population 251,000 and up).

The Escambia County Communications and Public Information Division (also known as Community and Media Relations) is led by Director for Communications and Public Information Laura Coale and includes Multimedia Graphic Designer Daniel Spanier, Video Production Specialist David Heroux and Intern Mischel Johnson. David Myers, web coordinator in IT should also be recognized. Past employees who contributed to COVID-19 communications include Senior Community and Media Relations Specialist Hana Frenette and Library Community and Media Relations Specialist Jamie Gillespie-Turner as well as temporary Community and Media Relations Specialist Blain Fowler and Intern Grayson Sheets. EW Bullock assisted with the quick turn media buy. All content was created in-house.

"The Communications and Public Information Office has dedicated professionals who have continued to provide streamlined communications about COVID-19," said Interim County Administrator Wes Moreno. "Escambia County's award entry named 'COVIDCANE' may have been unique in this national competition to include hurricane communications in the middle of a pandemic. Our communications team, led by Laura Coale, has worked extremely hard this past year and is committed to continue to communicate about COVID-19 while necessary."

The City-County Communications and Marketing Association is the nation's premiere network of local government communicators. Each year the number of entries in 3CMA's Savvy Awards competition increases in quality, array and scope of programs submitted. The program reflects the growing skills of communication and marketing professionals, as more local governments and agencies embrace and employ the concepts of enhanced marketing and communication with residents.

3CMA's policy is that Savvy Competition finalists are not notified of the exact award won prior to the awards ceremony which will be held Sept. 9, 2021 during 3CMA's Annual Conference in St. Louis, MO.
