The media is invited to attend the Escambia County Summer Youth Employment Program Ceremony from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 23 at the Brownsville Community Center, located at 3200 W. De Soto St. Approximately 100 youth workers will be recognized by District 3 Commissioner Lumon May and Neighborhood & Human Services staff.
The Youth Employment Program gives 16 to 24-year-olds the opportunity to get paid work experience in various county departments, including Animal Services, Building Services, Community and Media Relations, County Attorney, Development Services, District 3 County Commissioners Office, Engineering/Traffic, Extension Services, Facilities Management, IT, Library Services, Escambia County Area Transit, Neighborhood and Human Services, Parks and Recreation, Public Safety, Supervisor of Elections and the Escambia County School District.
"We started this program because I believe in young people," said District 3 Commissioner Lumon May. "When we talk about economic development, I think the best thing we can do is expose young people to opportunity."
Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
