In order to accommodate the increased traffic congestion resulting from the Scenic Highway detour, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has changed the traffic signal timing along Davis Highway. Recent heavy rains and flooding in the area caused damage to Scenic Highway in several locations, with the associated detour routes having been designated as Davis Highway and Ninth Avenue.

Escambia County Corrections has announced that video visitation service will be taken offline from 7 a.m. until noon, tomorrow, Tuesday, May 20.. The temporary suspension of the service will allow for the system to be fully upgraded. The upgrades should be completed by the end of the business day Tuesday.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) has announced that Escambia County has been included in the latest federal declaration for Individual Assistance.\r\n\r\nIndividuals who have lost their jobs or businesses in Escambia County as a result of recent severe storms and flooding may be entitled to Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) benefits. A federal disaster declaration was received on May 6, authorizing the use of federal funds to provide assistance to individuals affected by the disaster.\r\n

The Escambia County Public Works Department is working to repair County roadways and various infrastructures that suffered damage from the recent flooding event. Initially there were 740 notations of damaged roads, shoulders, ponds, bridges and other County thoroughfare. Since the flooding event, 315 have been repaired or have been assigned to a contractor or an engineering consultant.
