Perdido Key celebrated its first sea turtle hatch of the season on Friday, Aug. 2. 70 hatchlings were confirmed to have entered the Gulf of Mexico, despite being disoriented by artificial lightning.

Cowley Park on Pensacola Beach will close Monday, Aug. 12 through Sunday, Aug. 25 for fence repairs and park upgrades. During this time, the tennis courts and roller hockey rink will closed for use. The park is expected to re-open Monday, Aug. 26, weather permitting.

This is a chance for residents to dispose of items such as old furniture, appliances and household waste free of charge. Yard debris is eligible for removal during this cleanup.

Escambia County is thrilled to celebrate the first sea turtle hatch of the season on Pensacola Beach. The hatch occurred over the weekend, with 59 hatchlings reported entering the Gulf of Mexico. Despite challenges from artificial lighting and weather events, the hatchlings were safely recovered and released in accordance with marine turtle regulations.

The County Road 168 bridge over Hobbs Branch will reopen to motorists today, July 26. The bridge closed for necessary rehabilitation Wednesday, July 3, and this work has been successfully completed. Gulf Marine Construction, Inc. is the prime contractor who performed the work on the bridge.

Approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2014, the PKHCP outlines conservation measures to prevent impacts to the Perdido Key Beach Mouse, nesting sea turtles, shorebirds and their habitats.
