  • More Inmates Test Positive for COVID-19 at the Escambia County Jail

    Through contact tracing more inmates have tested positive at the Escambia County Jail. Out of the 44 inmates tested, 38 have tested positive, four have tested negative and two are awaiting results. All of the inmates who have tested positive are not presenting medical concerns. Two of the units in the jail have been turned into isolation zones to house the inmates who have tested positive to try to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

  • Escambia County Launches Public Health Campaign: Mask Up, Escambia!

    Escambia County is launching a public health campaign, "Mask Up, Escambia!" focused on informing residents and visitors that masks are recommended by the CDC. In addition, the county will distribute face masks for the public while supplies last at community centers, libraries and at Pensacola Beach beginning today, Thursday, July 2, during normal business hours.

  • Three Inmates Test Positive for COVID-19 at Escambia County Jail

    Three inmates at the Escambia County Jail have tested positive for COVID-19 as of this morning. Over the course of four months, the jail has tested over 30 inmates and these are the first three inmates who have tested positive. The three inmates are in a medical unit and are not presenting medical concerns. The three units that the positive inmates came from are being offered testing and will remain in their units collectively pending the results.

    The Escambia County Board of Commissioners will hold several meetings Thursday, July, 2. The Agenda Review will begin at 9 a.m., followed by Public Forum at 4:30 p.m. and the BCC Regular Meeting at 5:30 p.m. All meetings will take place in the board chambers of the Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building, found on the first floor of 221 Palafox Place.

  • U.S. Treasury Department Approves County RESTORE Multiyear Implementation Plan

    The U.S. Treasury Department approved the Escambia County Multiyear Implementation Plan Amendment 1 which includes the new RESTORE Direct Component (Pot 1) projects selected by the commission. County staff will begin submitting the individual project grant applications to the U.S. Treasury Department for final approval and release of funds.
