Only residents in the designated cleanup area are able to participate in the neighborhood cleanup. Items left at the curb outside of the cleanup area will not be collected. On Saturday, Aug. 14, Escambia County declared a local state of emergency due to the potential threat of Tropical Storm Fred. Escambia County Emergency Management held another planning meeting with our partners today at 11 a.m. A local state of emergency allows the County Administrator to spend operational funds if necessary.

Escambia County is encouraging residents and visitors to closely monitor official weather sources for information regarding Tropical Depression Fred. The National Weather Service of Mobile is forecasting Tropical Depression Fred to move across the Florida Straits before turning northwest and strengthening into a tropical storm as it moves across the eastern Gulf on Sunday, Aug. 15.

Escambia County today enhanced the COVID-19 dashboard at myescambia.com/covid19dashboard to include a breakdown of adult and pediatric hospitalizations data provided by local hospitals. It now also displays the percentage of partially and fully vaccinated Escambia County residents with data sourced from the CDC. The dashboard is updated Monday through Friday.

Pensacola Beach celebrated its first sea turtle hatch of the season Tuesday night, Aug. 11. Sixty-one loggerhead hatchlings safely reached the Gulf of Mexico, despite being disoriented by artificial lighting.

An Escambia County Area Transit bus was involved in a motor vehicle crash with a minivan near Chisholm Road and E. Johnson Avenue. Three riders were on the bus. One rider was transported by EMS to a local area hospital and the remaining riders will be picked up by another bus to continue Route 45. ECFR and EMS units (M15, E7, S40) were dispatched at 3:05 p.m. Escambia County Sheriff's Office also responded and the Florida Highway Patrol was notified.

An inmate from the Escambia County Jail escaped from road crew work detail at approximately 12:12 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10. Inmate Lance Chatman, a 31-year-old white male escaped while working at Aston Broshnaham Park. Escambia County Corrections K-9 captured him within 21 minutes. The inmate was transported back to the Escambia County jail and will be charged with escape.

Chemstrand Road between Arnett Street and Chadson Street will experience intermittent nighttime roadway lane closures or lane shifts beginning Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. One lane of traffic will be closed between 8 p.m. - 5 a.m., Aug. 10-12 due to crews installing a 36-inch storm drainpipe across Chemstrand Road. Chemstrand Road between Arnett Street and Chadson Street may be closed to through traffic during this time.
