Beginning 9 a.m., Tuesday, November 20, the Sunshine Hill Road Bridge was closed for repairs. The anticipated time frame for the repairs is three weeks and the bridge should be open to traffic by December 10.

At a Special Meeting on November 19, the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners approved an ordinance establishing a four cent local option fuel tax on motor fuel to create a dedicated funding source for public transportation and mass transit services. An amendment to the motion passing the ordinance specified that $1.15 million in property tax relief be included as part of the County's Fiscal Year 2013/2014 budget.\r\n

Pensacola Civic Center is evolving. SMG, the management company of the venue, presented their plan to the Escambia County Commissioners this morning. They voted unanimously to rebrand the venue with a new name and a new logo, changing from Pensacola Civic Center to Pensacola Bay Center.\r\n

On Friday, November 2, 2012, Acting County Administrator Larry Newsom appointed Patrick T. Grace to serve as the new Escambia County Fire Chief. Grace had been serving Escambia County as a Battalion Chief since 2001. During this time he gained extensive fire ground experience and interactions with all personnel in the organization, both volunteer and career staff.

The Escambia County Health Department continues its mosquito-borne illness alert for Escambia County, Florida. One additional human case of West Nile virus (WNV) has been confirmed in Escambia County, Florida. The identification of this new case brings the total number of diagnosed WNV cases to thirteen for 2012. There is still some risk that additional persons could become infected with WNV from mosquito bites.
