Navy Federal Credit Union Creates 1,500 Jobs in Escambia County

Published Jul 26, 2013

Governor Rick Scott today joined Escambia County Commissioner Gene Valentino and other local dignitaries to announce Navy Federal Credit Union, the world’s largest credit union, will create an additional 1,500 jobs in Escambia County with a $200 million expansion of its corporate operations center.

The project will include the construction of two new buildings, a central energy plant, auditorium, parking structure and recreation area totaling 342,000 square feet.

The credit union currently employs 3,000 people locally.  The expansion will be the fourth since establishing operations in Escambia County.  In 2012, Escambia County residents voted to maintain the Economic Development Ad Valorem Tax Exemptions (EDATE) to qualifying businesses for an exemption of property taxes of up to 100 percent for a maximum of 10 years, remaining in effect until December 2022.   Navy Federal Credit Union participates in the EDATE among various other local organizations.
