More than two months have passed since the bulk of the three-county Blackwater Forestry Center coverage area has seen appreciable rainfall and current fire danger levels reflect it. With a dry cold front predicted to pass through the area this weekend and humidities slated to drop into the 20 percent range, the Florida Forest Service is urging residents to hold off on burning any yard debris and be cautious with any other outdoor burning.

Escambia County has been awarded a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program grant for the Delano Street Area Drainage Project to reduce the loss of life and property due to natural disasters. The grant totals more than $2.3 million and will implement long-term hazard mitigation measures to reduce flooding in the Delano Street area.

Escambia County Fire Rescue will be conducting a "Deep Fry Turkey" fire safety demonstration on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. at Escambia County Fire Station 17, located at 6575 N "W" St. The demonstration will provide citizens and the media an example of the dangers involved with not taking proper safety precautions when deep frying a turkey. The goal is to educate the public and prevent a Thanksgiving tragedy.
