Bookish Happenings
Book events for adults
Southwest Branch Library Book Club
Friendly literary conversation of Martha Hall Kelly’s “Lilac Girls: A Novel”, inspired by the life of a real World War II heroine. Light refreshments will be served. This event is sponsored by Friends of the Southwest Branch Library.
Author Discussion/Book Signing
Dr. Patricia Martin will discuss her new book, “Liars, Cheats and Creeps: Leaving the Sociopath Behind”, coauthored by Renee Forte. Books will be available for sale and signing. Light refreshments will be served. The event is sponsored by Friends of the Southwest Branch Library.
Graphic Novel Group
Join Pop Comics owner Harley Orr and Pensacola Library Staff in a discussion of book one of John Lewis and Andrew Aydin’s graphic novel “March”. The group will meet monthly to discuss graphic novels.
“News of the World” Book Discussion
Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, the protagonist of “News of the World” by Paulette Jiles, is a solitary man. Content to drift from town to town reading news of the wider world to those who can pay he doesn’t ask much of life. However, Kidd’s life is drastically changed when he becomes the courier of a young girl who was kidnapped and raised by the Kiowa tribe. Kidd and his charge travel more than 400 miles as he reads the news of the world.
Molino Book Club
Readers and book lovers are welcome to share thoughts and opinions at April’s book club discussion. This month’s book, “The Grammar of God” by Aviya Kushner, is the record of a 10-year project. The author, who is very familiar with the Biblical Old Testament in its original Hebrew, encountered an English language translation that led to an examination of various translations and their histories.
Books to Film Book Club
“The Finest Hours: The True Story of the U.S. Coast Guard’s Most Daring Sea Rescue” by Michael Tougias is based on the Feb. 18, 1952 rescue during one of the worst winter storms in New England that resulted in two oil tankers being torn in half off the shores of Cape Cod. Everyone is welcome, with or without having read the book.
“The Girl Before” Book Discussion
JP Delaney’s new psychological thriller tells the story of Jane, who has just moved to a new home at One Folgate Street. The house is an architectural masterpiece, and as she settles into her new home, Jane finds out that she has a lot in common with the previous tenant, who recently died. Jane soon begins to unknowingly follow the same patterns, meet the same people and experience the same terrors.

D.E.A.R - Drop Everything and Read Mystery Book Hunt
Help Molino Branch Library celebrate Drop Everything and Read month by browsing the library’s shelves for the mystery book. The person who finds the mystery book will receive a free book to keep. For ages 17 and under.
Pet Partners: Read With Me
School-aged children are invited to register for a 15-minute session to pick a book and read to one of therapy dogs who patiently listen while cuddling up to a good story. Dogs and handlers are coordinated through Pet Partners and Cherry Point Dog Training Inc. Preregistration is requested.
American Girl Book Club: ‘Meet Molly’ meeting 3 of 3
Children will learn what life was like for an American girl growing up during WWII in America through the book, activities and food of the era. For Molly McIntire, life seems full of change. It's 1944 and the world is at war. Her father is far away caring for wounded soldiers. Her mother is busy working for the Red Cross. Everyone in America is so serious and practical that glamorous Halloween costumes are hard to get. Molly's special hula skirt is a huge success – until Ricky, her pesky big brother, plays a mean trick. Molly and her friends are determined to get back at him. One mean trick leads to another until the fighting goes too far. Each child receives a free copy of the book from Friends of the Southwest Branch Library, who also provide all supplies for the meeting activities. Preregistration is requested.

Teens 13-17 are welcome to come and play games at the Molino Branch Library. Join in on the fun, games, and as always – pizza.
STEAM Family Night
Eggbots
This gizmo draws designs on spherical shapes. Come try your hand at this artistic piece of tech.
ScribbleBots
Come build a drawing robot. All the materials to unleash a unique artist robot will be provided. Participants need only to bring imagination and a desire to have fun. The motorized robot will leave its mark as it travels to produce art masterpieces.
Crafts
Westside Loopy Loomers
Learn to loom knit hats, scarves, lap blankets and other items and give back to the community. Yarn and looms are provided. All ages are welcome.
Lego night
Visit the craft room to create with Lego®. There will be building challenges and open play. Best enjoyed by ages 2 and up; parent or caregiver must be present.
Fabulous Fridays
Join us for Fabulous Fridays. On April 7, grown-ups can appreciate an hour of sitting with pens and pencils and adult coloring books. April 21 will be a little quieter, as participants join the resident writer in exploring a creative writing project. On April 28, just in time for Mother’s Day, the resident jewelry maker will teach participants to make a beaded wire wrap bracelet. Supplies will be provided.
Fabulous Fridays for Kids
The weekend has arrived and it’s time to get creative. Kids are invited to the Children’s Room every Friday for simple activities that require nothing but an imagination. On April 7, get ready for Easter by decorating eggs with local artist Edith Davis. April 21 brings fun in the shape of puzzles. On April 28, children can use Giant Crystal Connectors made of different geometric-shaped, clear-colored plastic blocks to create a cool design.
Make it Mondays
Get creative in the craft room. Celebrate spring with vibrant rainbow sponge painting. Use the colors of the rainbow and a sponge to paint and blend colors.
Make-n-Take
Children will create necklaces and bracelets from paper beads and turn them into original jewelry. This program is appropriate for ages 6 and up. All materials are provided by Friends of the Southwest Branch Library.
National Poetry Month: Black Out & Found Poems for Teens
Stop by the Youth Services Department from April 1-22 to create a black out or found poem in celebration of National Poetry Month. On April 22, stop in for snacks and a look at all the submissions.

Pajama Story Time with the Easter Bunny
It’s pajama story time with the Easter Bunny. Wear PJs, bring a blankie and enjoy a story. Children can get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny. Parents should bring their cameras.
Easter Weekend
West Florida Public Libraries will be closed for Easter weekend April 14-16. All branches will return to regular hours on Monday, April 17.
Celebrate the Big 10 with Us
The Century Library has arrived at our big 10th anniversary. The library opened to the town of Century on March 18, 2007, with a grand opening on April 18, 2007. Stop in on April 20 and have cake and punch with us.

Library Instruction
No one is born knowing how to use a library, and it’s never too late to learn. Yes, people can figure it out on their own, but it’s always nice to learn from someone who knows the ropes. Instructions will include basics of WFPL account use, review of the library website and some common tasks made much easier by knowing how libraries work.
Whooo’s Who in Your Family Tree
Whooo’s got a story? You do. Help keep those stories alive by coming in to the Genealogy Branch Library to scan family documents and pictures. Bring a flash drive and leave with a digital family album.

Pensacola Performances
Area music organizations are partnering to present Pensacola Performances, a weekly series intended to raise awareness of the possibilities for public participation as performers and audience, to promote upcoming events and to explore a variety of musical topics.
Movie Night
In recognition of that fateful day on April 20, 2010, when the Deepwater Horizon disaster took place in the Gulf of Mexico, Tryon Branch Library will show “Deepwater Horizon” starring Mark Wahlberg, released in 2016 with a rating of PG-13 and a running time of 1 hour and 47 minutes.

Regular Meeting of the West Florida Genealogical Society
Meet the members of the West Florida Genealogical Society. Non-members are welcome to attend and learn more about researching family history from the more experienced members.
AARP Tax–Aide
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free tax preparation help to anyone. Services are aimed at those who are 50 and older and/or can’t afford a tax preparation service. There’s no fee and no sales pitch for other services. AARP membership is not required. Representatives will be at Pensacola Library to provide this service on Tuesdays and Saturdays and at Southwest Branch Library Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through April 15. The last person is accepted at 1 p.m. The program is jointly sponsored by the IRS and the AARP Foundation and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Citizens should bring a photo I.D., Social Security cards or other official documentation for everyone on the return, a copy of last year’s tax return, tax forms and information for this tax year and a schedule of deductions if they have numerous receipts.
GED Classes
Earn a GED at the Molino Community Center. Classes begin Monday, March 6 and run each Monday and Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Molino Community Center. This is an open enrollment program, so students may enroll anytime during the semester. Contact Patricia Harrison at George Stone, 850-941-6200 ext. 2361, for more information. Hunter Safety Class
All hunters born after 1975 are required to take a hunter safety class to get their hunting license. Do not wait until the last minute. This class requires completion of the FWC’s free online hunter safety course before attending class. Go to myfwc.com to register and take the online course. Mythosophy®: The Afterlife in Myth and Folklore
What is the afterlife? Is there life after death? Is it a place or state of consciousness? Sources in mythology and folklore have some answers to these and other questions. Come and learn some explanations offered by myth.
5-2-1-0 Let’s Go
The 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go Northwest Florida team will present a fun program that encourages children to eat healthy and be active. Eat at least five servings of fruits and veggies, limit screen time to no more than two hours, be active for at least one hour and drink zero sugary drinks. 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go Northwest Florida is sponsored by the Florida Department of Health.
