Landfill Operations receives and processes approximately 300,000 tons of waste per year. The waste is handled in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 62-701 under an operating permit issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Waste received at the Perdido Landfill is visually screened then compacted by large machinery. At the end of each workday, a layer of material such as dirt, ash or mulch is placed over the waste. This minimizes odor, litter and allows for vector control.
