Your new best friend is waiting for you! Come visit the Escambia County Animal Shelter at 200 W. Fairfield Drive.

Adoption Hours

Monday through Friday: 12- 5 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

NEW!  Adoption fees include altering of the animal (spay or neutering services), microchip and the animal's initial vaccinations, including rabies vaccinations. Escambia County residents will be required to purchase a license at the time of adoption. This is an additional $11 over the adoption fees and is paid separately.

What to Expect

  • When you enter the lobby, please tell the staff that you are interested in adopting a pet, and you will be guided to the viewing areas for dogs and cats. Any animal that is available for adoption can be identified by a green kennel card.

  • If you are looking for a lost pet, please notify the staff. Most strays are housed in the main kennel area that has public access. If you do not see it there, then the staff will escort you to other areas of the shelter where your pet may be.

  • Strays, quarantined and legal hold animals are not available for adoption. We do not give out any information on the strays as we are still investigating for the animals' owners.

    • Before we can evaluate stray animals for possible adoption and legally transfer ownership, they must be held for a minimum of three full days of operation. This does not count the first day they arrive at the shelter, Sundays or holidays when we are closed to the public.

  • Information on the adoptable dogs is kept at the front desk and can be requested by simply telling the staff member or volunteer which kennel the dog is in. We will tell you all of the information we have on any of the dogs in the adoption section.

  • The kittens and cats available for adoption are in the rooms off the front lobby. When you have selected a pet for adoption, our staff will explain the details of the adoption process, then have you read, agree to, and sign the adoption contract.

Animals Not Available for Adoption

While visiting the shelter, you will see animals that are still on hold and not yet available for adoption. If you are interested in adopting one of these animals, you will have to monitor it either at 24PetConnect or by visiting the shelter.

  • Shelter staff are unable to keep a list and contact individuals who are interested in adopting an animal when it becomes available.
  • We cannot hold or reserve animals, as all adoptions are done on a “first come, first served” basis.
