More than 75 people gathered at the Molino Community Complex on Monday, February 25 to share concerns and discuss future plans for their community with Escambia County Commissioner Steven Barry. Wide ranging topics included rules governing chickens in residential neighborhoods, roadway repair and upkeep, economic development, the County’s recently passed 4-cent gas tax and upcoming public works projects. Commissioner Barry was joined by representatives from several Escambia County departments who helped address the resident’s questions.\r\n

The fishing pier at Fort Pickens in the Gulf Islands National Seashore will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013 for routine maintenance, as well as for the inventory and monitoring of natural resources. During this time, National Park Service divers will be evaluating fisheries, removing invasive species, trash, debris, and fishing line from the pier structure. This closure extends 25 yards in any direction from the pier, including the water. Sitting on approximately 200 acres at 2020 Bauer Road, the Southwest Escambia Sportsplex opened this past summer with lighted baseball, softball, soccer and football fields, an open play area, walking trails, playground, covered pavilions and ample parking. Youth sports - including football, cheerleading, girls' softball, tee-ball, baseball, and soccer - are now in full swing.\r\n\r\nThe Sportsplex was funded through the Local Option Sales Tax at a cost of just over $9 million and is managed in partnership with the Perdido Bay Youth Sports Assocation and the Perdido Bay Futbol Club.

Approximately 150 people attended the grand opening of the Molino Community Complex, 6450 Highway 95-A North, on Wednesday, October 17. This historical renovation project included the conversion of the old Molino School into a 15,600 square foot library, community center and museum, as well as a new 7,000 square foot facility constructed for the Tax Collector and Property Appraiser. This facility will also house a polling station for early voting and elections.

Robinson Escambia County Equestrian Center will host the Pensacola Dog Fancier’s Association annual conformation and obedience show this Saturday and Sunday, March 2 and 3, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
