Special May Events at West Florida Public Libraries

Cool Movie Night

  • Tuesday, May 13, 5 p.m. – Tryon Branch

The movie that will be shown is rated PG.

National Weather Service Storm Spotter Class

  • Tuesday, May 20, 6 p.m. – Molino Branch

Presented by John Werner, Meteorologist/Hydrology Program Leader NOAA - National Weather Service, this is the introductory course that describes the basic forms of severe weather, what NWS SkyWarn spotters do, basic spotting techniques and how to make reports to the NWS and basic storm safety.  The class is approximately 90 minutes and there are no formal prerequisites for the Basic SkyWarn class; however it is recommended attendees take the online training beforehand.

Author Visit - Anne Sanders, Behind the Stage

  • Saturday, May 17, 1 p.m. – Main Library

Niceville author Anne Sanders will be at the Main Library to sign copies of her debut novel, Behind the Stage.

Author Visit:  Frank Hamrick, Captain, USN, Retired

  • Saturday, May 17, 11 a.m. – Southwest Branch

Follow the stories of a Navy pilot who chose the military life and a career that covered a half-century of flying.  Just Call Me Frank: Memories of a Navy Jet Pilot book signing to follow the event.

Origami Yoda

  • Thursday, May 22, 4 p.m. – Tryon Branch

Elementary aged children are invited to learn the art of origami and make their own character from the popular Origami Yoda books.

Book Discussion Group (Adults)

Teen Movie Matinee

  • Saturday, May 24, 1 p.m., – Southwest Branch, monthly on the fourth Saturday

Popcorn and lemonade will be served during this monthly event and a variety of films will be shown, including West Side Story and Bandslam.

Books to Film Book Club

  • Tuesday, May 27, 6 p.m. – Tryon Branch, monthly on the last Tuesday

Join the group for a discussion of the book A Most Wanted Man.  Books are available for check out at the Tryon Circulation desk and 18 and older are welcome. 

Family Game Night

  • Weekly on Mondays, 6 p.m. – Main Library

GED Classes

  • Monday and Thursdays, 6 p.m. – Molino Branch

Crafternoons (Youth 7 and older)

  • Weekly on Thursdays, 4 p.m. – Main Library

All WFPL locations will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Sunday, May 25, and Monday, May 26.  Effective May 25, the Main Library will also be closed on Sundays through September 1, 2014.
