  • Escambia County Hires Corrections Director

    Escambia County is pleased to announce the hiring of Michael Tidwell as Corrections Director. \r\n\r\nAs Director, Tidwell will oversee Community Corrections, Probations, Jail, Pretrial, Code Enforcement, Animal Control and the Road Prison. He replaces former director Gordon Pike, who retired last month. Tidwell will begin employment on Wednesday, January 28.\r\n

  • Escambia County Six Month Flood Report

    Six months after the rain began to fall on April 29, the sheer scope of the flood’s impact on Escambia County is staggering. One resident lost her life, hundreds were displaced from their homes and entire neighborhoods were torn apart by the rising waters. As of the end of September, 466 Escambia County residents are still displaced from their homes as a result of the devastating floods. In all, the floods caused an estimated $90 million in damage to the County’s infrastructure and facilities.

    The right lane of eastbound Interstate 10 between the 9th Avenue overpass and just west of the Scenic Highway overpass will be closed from 7 p.m. on Monday, November 24, to 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, as crews position a large construction crane. Motorists are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through the work zone. \r\n

    Crews will perform emergency repairs on the inside northbound lane of Pine Forest Road at I-10 beginning today, Thursday, November 20. Drivers can expect nighttime lane restrictions, narrowed travel lanes and a reduced speed limit from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. \r\n\r\n

  • Early Renewal Period for Beach Pass

    Drivers can now renew their transponder for the Bob Sikes Toll Plaza and unlike previous years, the renewal will have to be completed in person at the Santa Rosa Island Authority office, located at 1 Via De Luna.\r\n\r\nEscambia County is strongly recommending drivers with active passes renew before the end of the year to avoid a disruption in their transponder service.\r\n\r\nBecause of upcoming construction and improvements to the toll plaza, transponder users will also need to have a decal attached to the top right corner of their vehicle for 2015. The decal must be installed by a staff member of the Santa Rosa Island Authority.
