Escambia County Reminds Residents to Review Ordinances Before Installing New Fences

Published May 8, 2025

Escambia County would like to remind residents to review applicable county ordinances before installing new fences on their property or making other significant property improvements, especially when the work may impact their neighbors or require confirmation of property boundaries.

Fence installation in Escambia County requires residents to obtain a Land Use Certificate, which is available on the Zoning/Land Use Verifications page of the county website.

When in doubt, residents should contact Escambia County Development Services at 850-595-3475 or [email protected] with questions.

Fence installations are covered in County Ordinance Sec. 5-9.4, which includes the following key points:

  • A Land Use Certificate for fence installation is required before beginning work.
  • The owner/applicant must ensure fences are within their property boundaries and comply with all applicable laws and county ordinances.
  • The issuance of a certificate does not grant the right to trespass onto adjoining properties for any reason, including installation, maintenance or repair.
  • The owner/applicant is liable for any damage to adjacent properties.

For a complete list of regulations for fence installations, please review the Escambia County Code of Ordinances.

For additional information, please visit the Escambia County website or contact Escambia County Planning and Zoning at 850-595-3475 or [email protected].
