West Florida Public Libraries Announces Opening of Bellview Library Sept. 16

Published Sep 8, 2022

West Florida Public Libraries, along with Escambia County District 1 Commissioner and Chairman Jeff Bergosh, is pleased to announce a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Bellview Library Friday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. This is the first public library in District 1, located at 6425 Mobile Highway.

Construction of the library began in 2021. The 12,500 square foot library features a unique origami-inspired design with a capacity to hold 480 people. Inside, the library consists of a large open space divided into areas for a lobby, story time events, library service programs, leisure reading and more. The open floor plan provides entrances to other support spaces including multiple study rooms, a computer room and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) room. Those who come to the library will be able to take advantage of skill-building classes, daily hands-on activities and more.

“The Bellview Library will be a fantastic amenity not only for the Bellview community, but for the west side of Pensacola as a whole,” says Commissioner Bergosh. “I would like to applaud our Director of Library Services, Todd Humble, and West Florida Public Libraries staff for all of their dedication and hard work, in addition to our Director of Facilities Management, Rob Hogan, and our Assistant County Administrator, Wesley Hall, for their work in bringing this vision to fruition. I also would like to thank everyone who had a hand in the planning, designing and building of this fantastic facility. Without all the hard work from these folks we would still only have a vision of a Bellview Library. To the taxpayers, this is your library, as this project was funded with Local Option Sales Tax as well as library MSTU funds. I hope you will join us in celebrating this new addition to our community by attending the ribbon cutting.”

In addition, staff has planned several programs at the Bellview Library for the month of September. Citizens are invited to events including a 25th Anniversary Celebration of Harry Potter and Family Story Time. Visit here for more information about events at the Bellview Library.

Todd Humble, Director of Library Services, says, “As the newest library in Escambia County in over a decade, the Bellview Library has a different layout and feel than our other library locations. The unique look of the building creates immediate inquiries as to what the building services as, thus increasing community awareness. It was designed with flexibility in mind, and we look forward to hosting events here in the coming years.”

The Bellview Library will be open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
