At the
Escambia County Board of County Commissioners meeting on June 16, the board adopted a proclamation to declare June 20-26, 2022, as Amateur Radio Week.
From June 20-26, amateur radio operators, also known as ham radio operators, will be celebrating over a century of the miracle of the human voice broadcast over the airwaves.
Ham radio operators have provided countless hours of community service both in emergencies and to other local organizations throughout the decades, providing these services at no cost.
Escambia County also acknowledges the services ham radio operators provide during emergency responses, especially to Escambia County Public Safety during periods of emergency activation. Ham radio operators also serve as weather spotters for the SKYWARN program of the National Weather Service.
To conclude Amateur Radio Week, on June 25 and 26,
the Escambia Amateur Radio Emergency Service will gather at Ashton Brosnaham Park for the 2022 American Radio Relay League Field Day. The goal of Field Day is to demonstrate to the public the capabilities of ARES, especially their ability to establish emergency communications without outside assistance.
The Escambia Board of County Commissioners proudly recognizes and thanks our amateur radio operators for their service and dedication to the citizens of Escambia County.
