On June 25 and 26, the Escambia Amateur Radio Emergency Service will gather at Ashton Brosnaham Park for the 2022 American Radio Relay League Field Day. Members of the public are welcome to attend and observe the field day demonstrations by local ham radio operators.
The 2022 ARRL Field Day is a national exercise and contest for North American ham radio operators to go to non-permanent amateur radio locations and set up an emergency operational site. The goal is to meet as many ham radio operators, also known as amateur radio operators, from around the world as possible and to pass messages to selected regional ham radio authorities.
Every June, more than 40,000 hams throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio's science, skill and service to our communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach and technical skills all in a single event.
Overall, the goal of Field Day is to demonstrate to the public the capabilities of ARES, especially their ability to establish emergency communications without outside assistance.
