Compared to the third week of July, the third week of August shows a nearly 70 percent decrease in the average number of reported COVID-19 related deaths. Underlying Conditions
- Per multiple media reports, the Center for Disease Control has provided additional detail regarding the cause of death listed on COVID-19 related deaths. According to the CDC, as of Sunday, Aug. 30, 9,683 people died in the United States with only having COVID-19 listed on their death certificate. The CDC also stated that, on average, there were 2.6 causes of death listed on death certificates that also list COVID-19 as a cause of death. The CDC states provisional counts are not final and are subject to change, counts from previous weeks are continually revised as more records are received and processed, and death counts should not be compared across states.
