The Escambia County Marine Advisory Committee will host a special Scuba Diving Safety Symposium Monday, Aug. 9 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in room 104 of the Escambia County Central Office Complex, located at 3363 West Park Place in Pensacola. The event will facilitate discussion between divers, diving professionals, diving emergency responders and diving medical professionals.
The purpose of the symposium is to improve awareness of prevention, safety measures and emergency response procedures for recreational diving. Discussion topics will include prevention, response and treatment. Attendees will also receive additional contacts and information to help plan safe diving activities.
"Escambia County residents and visitors enjoy a wide range of snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities in local waterways; however, these thrilling adventures also have certain inherent risks," said Marine Resources Manager Captain Robert Turpin. "With proper training, equipment and preparation, these activities can be enjoyed safely."
The mission of Escambia County government is to provide efficient, responsive services that enhance our quality of life, meet common needs and promote a safe and healthy community.
