Miracle League of Pensacola, Parks and Rec Team Up to Add New Field
The Miracle League of Pensacola, located within the John R Jones Park, at 555 East Nine Mile Road played its first games in 2005 on one rubber surfaced baseball diamond designed for special needs participants in baseball, softball, and t-ball. The popularity and tremendous success of this program and facility is evident by the growth in numbers and fields. The Miracle League is now comprised of one multi-use rubber court for volleyball, basketball, or open play, a fully accessible special needs playground, and a total of three ball diamonds, the last of which was completed in early fall to open the Fall Miracle League Season. The Miracle League organization with hard work, sponsorship, grant dollars and many community volunteers made this new field a reality. The Parks and Recreation Department assisted with the sidewalks, bleacher areas, and perimeter areas to the new field, with Miracle League handling the field itself. This program is a tremendous asset to the community as a whole and the Parks and Recreation Department would encourage the citizens of Escambia County to get out and see a game, or sign up to volunteer in this program as it is a truly rewarding experience.
