Perdido Key Drive West Multi-Use Path

Perdido Key is a barrier island which is part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore chain of islands that stretches for hundreds of miles along the Intercoastal Waterway. Perdido Key is home to a community of active, engaged people that will embrace infrastructure improvements which enhance their lifestyle.

Two separate projects were undertaken by the Florida Department of Transportation to design a Multi-Use Path that extends from River Rd. to the Alabama/Florida State line along Perdido Key Dr. formerly State Road 292. The intent of the project is to construct an 8’ (concrete) multi-use path along the North side of Perdido Key Dr. The project was prompted by pedestrian related crashes and fatalities in recent years. Design contracts were initiated by FDOT in 2017 with subsequent contract amendments through 2019.

On November 6, 2019 Escambia County took ownership of Perdido Key Dr. through a transfer agreement with FDOT from Gongora Dr. to the Alabama State line. At the time of the ownership transfer, design and permitting was not completed. Design services are needed to finalize design, complete utility coordination and permitting prior to any commencement of construction activities. The design assignment agreements would allow Escambia County to continue through completion the Multi-Use pathway enriching the community with safe passageway for pedestrians and bicyclist alike.

The intent of this portion of the project is to bring the FDOT design of the Western most path section from the Alabama State Line to the West Entrance of the State Park to finalized construction ready plans and provide support through construction and post construction.  The chosen firm will take the FDOT shelf ready plans and finalize the design ensuring that all critical habitat permitting, wetland delineation and utility coordination is completed. The firm will support the construction of the project and provide As-built certification upon completion. The firm will submit documents as needed. Completed certification shall have CAD files submitted as well.
