Following the April 2014 storm event, the area of Blue Springs Avenue and Crescent Lake suffered significant storm damage to public infrastructure and private properties. Escambia County responded to the damages with the following repair projects:
Given the extent of damage in this area, Escambia County completed the Blue Springs at Clearwater Long Term Drainage Analysis to address drainage deficiencies in the area East of Crescent Lake to determine the best approach for funding drainage improvements to provide for future sustainability for the area, and mitigate such drainage impacts from future occurrence. Six potential stormwater improvements were evaluated to reduce the potential for flooding in the area. Two of the options were referred to FDOT for consideration to make improvements to the Empire Pit. Four alternatives were evaluated to provide stormwater attenuation and treatment for the upstream basin, contributing to Blue Springs Avenue, in the area of Sun Valley Drive, Glass Drive, Clearwater Avenue. The recommended alternative is to maximize the pond stormwater volume, depending upon successful property acquisition. The recommended solution can be found in the figure below.
