West Florida Public Libraries is excited to announce its Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Community Celebration Exhibit, a tribute honoring and remembering departed loved ones. The exhibit is open to the public starting Monday, Oct. 21 through Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Pensacola Library, located at 239 N. Spring St.
At the exhibit, attendees can fill out a butterfly card to share memories of their loved ones on the butterfly wall. Each butterfly will become part of the exhibit, symbolizing the community's collective recognition of their loved ones. The exhibit will also feature items commonly associated with Día de los Muertos and their meanings, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of the traditions that honor the deceased. In addition,
attendees can take home Día de los Muertos recipe cards to bring the flavors of the
celebration into their own homes.
A special family storytime has also been scheduled at the Pensacola Library at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 23 and 30, featuring guest speaker Grace Resendez-McCaffery, President of Latino Media Gulf Coast.
Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday celebrated each year on Nov. 1 and 2. WFPL's exhibit serves as a cultural and educational opportunity, offering insights into the significance of the holiday.
