The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize Amber Borden, Grant Coordinator in the Mass Transit Department, as the February 2024 Employee of the Month. The board recognized Amber’s selection at the Feb. 8 BCC meeting.
As Grant Coordinator, Borden serves as the main consulting and coordinating authority on grant activities through researching grant opportunities, developing and implementing grant proposals, tracking the status of different grants in operation, and maintaining and organizing documentation for comprehensive triennial Federal Transit Administration reviews on funding.
“It is a great feeling to receive the title of Employee of the Month, especially when you know you are competing with so many exceptional county employees,” said Borden. “I sincerely appreciate the acknowledgment of my work. I’m excited to see what the future holds for ECAT and am so happy to be a part of it! I will continue to provide my efforts to the best of my ability and look forward to contributing to many years of improvements and developments throughout Escambia County. To my family, friends, and coworkers: I am so grateful for your support. This is not something I could have done alone. Having an excellent team to work closely with truly makes it feel as though it is not work at all.”
Most notably, Borden led the application process to successfully obtain $26 million in grant awards for a new transit facility that will offer enhanced hurricane protection and provide bus services for evacuation. An additional $5 million was secured for new eco-friendly and energy-efficient bus shelters, further enhancing transit services to county citizens.
In addition, Borden secured four donated 2020 buses for Escambia County’s fixed route services from the Florida Department of Transportation, which has led to an upgrade in quality standards for citizens using the public transportation system.
Alongside her duties as Grant Coordinator, Borden has assumed the role of Acting Finance Manager, building, implementing, and adapting accounts receivable systems and protocols to collect revenues for the Mass Transit Department more effectively.
“During her time at ECAT, Amber has successfully built genuine trust with her coworkers and outside stakeholders,” said Mass Transit Director Rodriques Kimbrough. “She works hard to engage her fellow team members and has been recognized for her positive outlook and contributions to the department. Amber keeps ECAT driving toward excellence, and we are incredibly honored to have her on our team.”
The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners commends and congratulates Amber Borden on her selection as the February 2024 Employee of the Month.
