Forestry Mulching Operations to Begin Aug. 25

Published Aug 25, 2023

Beginning Friday, Aug. 25, Escambia County's Natural Resources Conservation division will begin forestry mulching operations on 55 acres at the Southwest Escambia Sports Complex, located at 2020 Bauer Road. The public should use caution around the area. Operations are expected to continue for the next three weeks.

Forestry mulching, or mowing, is a conservation management technique used to control overgrown vegetation. Mulching helps improve habitat and trail accessibility while also reducing risk of wildfires. In areas with dense and overgrown vegetation, mulching aids in reducing fuel loads for future burn operations. It is also used in areas close to neighborhoods and other human developments where prescribed fire may not be practical or safe.

For more information, the public may contact the Natural Resources Conservation office at 850-840-9089. Follow Escambia County Natural Resources Management on Facebook for updates on environmental and natural resource programs, news and events.
