Beginning September 2023, Escambia County's Construction Management division will commence the Beach Haven Phase II Sanitary Sewer and Drainage Project. Work is expected to be completed by 2025, weather permitting. The project is a joint effort between Escambia County and the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority.
Located in District 2, Beach Haven Phase II will provide enhanced stormwater improvements and sanitary sewer services to all lots in the Beach Haven neighborhood. The project scope includes enhancements to the existing drainage system within the project area, removal of deep roadside ditches, preventing roadway and adjacent lot flooding, preventing roadside shoulder ponding, roadway reconstruction and resurfacing improvements, and sanitary sewer services as directed by ECUA with elimination of septic tanks and associated drain fields. The project extends from Gulf Beach Highway on the south to Jones Swamp on the north, and Fairfield Drive on the west to Colbert Avenue on the east.
Beach Haven Phase II is funded by the Local Option Sales Tax, Escambia County CRA, ECUA, BP Oil Spill Recovery Funds, and Florida Department of Environmental Protection RESTORE and Resilient grants. The total cost of construction is $20,934,055.76.
Construction will take place Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Areas impacted during construction will be returned to their previous state. Areas to adjacent properties will be maintained, although there may be periods when a driveway or entrance is temporarily blocked. Roads Inc. is the project contractor, and Mott McDonald will provide construction inspection for the county and monitor activities daily. ECUA will also have an inspector on-site each day.
