The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize Mackenzie Semenovich, Lead Animal Welfare Coordinator in the Department of Animal Welfare, as the July 2023 Employee of the Month. The board recognized Mackenzie’s selection at the July 18 BCC meeting.
Mackenzie began her career with Escambia County on July 23, 2019. As the Lead Animal Welfare Coordinator, her primary duties include animal care, enforcing admission protocols, monitoring for physical or behavioral changes, and providing customer service. She also assesses animals for adoption, assists with transporting animals, facilitates interactions with interested groups, and advocates for responsible pet ownership. Mackenzie regularly acts in a supervisory capacity for other staff members and handles several administrative report functions.
During her time with the Department of Animal Welfare, Mackenzie quickly became an important asset by building connections with new rescues and repairing relationships with old partners. Her efforts have translated into an increased number of animals transferred into rescue facilities in the last year, making space available for new animals and providing improved assistance to the citizens of Escambia County.
Additionally, Mackenzie was a key element in building a strong relationship with WolfGang, an organization specializing in creating events for people to have memorable experiences with their pets. Thanks to her shared efforts with WolfGang to raise awareness and funds for the Animal Welfare and Adoption Center, the center has received over $8,000 in donations since the beginning of 2022. Mackenzie has assisted in 90% of adoption events provided by WolfGang, sharing information about the shelter and its available pets for adoption.
“The Escambia County Department of Animal Welfare has an entire team of dedicated employees, making it difficult to single one person out for the Employee of the Month,” said John Robinson, Director of Animal Welfare. “However, the amazing work that Mackenzie has done with all the Wolfgang events to bring awareness to the animals in our care deserves recognition as the Escambia County Employee of the Month.”
Mackenzie is continuing her education by attending a behavioral class with a dog that needs training before becoming suitable for adoption, providing her with skills that will aid other shelter pets in becoming a better fit for families. She is a natural dog whisperer dedicated to working with confused and scared dogs admitted to the shelter to become highly adoptable pets.
The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners congratulates Mackenzie for her selection as the July 2023 Employee of the Month.
Mackenzie was joined by family, friends and fellow Department of Animal Welfare team members during her proclamation at the July 18 BCC meeting.
