Escambia County residents are encouraged to monitor potential severe weather with the enhanced risk of damaging winds, tornadoes, large hail, high surf and dangerous rip currents on Wednesday, June 14.
The National Weather Service in Mobile, Ala. projects that large swaths of damaging winds in excess of 70-80 mph, large hail up to two inches in diameter and strong tornadoes are possible for Escambia County.
"There is a chance for severe weather in our area tonight and Emergency Management is asking our citizens to keep a few things in mind," said Emergency Manager Travis Tompkins. "Make sure your phone is setup to receive emergency alerts such as severe thunderstorm or tornado watches and warnings. Have a tornado plan in place now in case a tornado warning is issued in your area. This would include making sure that you stay away from windows and doors and get to the center of your house. There is the potential for hail tonight, so bring your pets inside and park your vehicle under covered parking if available. If you receive damage from a storm, you can self report your damage at MyEscambia.com/BeReady, where you can also find preparedness information for all of the above information and more. Have a plan and stay safe."
With the threat of large hail, residents are encouraged to park their vehicles under hard coverings, such as a garage or car port. Residents are encouraged to remain indoors during the storm and avoid sheltering under trees if outside, especially when hail is present.
Residents can sign up for Alert Escambia emergency updates through the Emergency Management website.
Citizens can also report storm-related damages. If you receive damage to your home due to the storm, please report it to the Escambia County Citizens Damage Report.
