The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity's Rebuild Florida Workforce Recovery Training Program has been launched with $5 million in funding allocated to local workforce development boards, educational institutions and technical centers located in the communities most impacted by Hurricane Sally.

The Rebuild Florida WRTP is designed to train Floridians in communities impacted by Hurricane Sally in trades necessary to support disaster recovery efforts.

The Rebuild Florida Workforce Recovery Training Program makes funds available to local workforce development boards, school districts, higher education institutions and technical centers serving the five counties designated by the state of Florida and by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development as being the Most Impacted and Distressed. Eligible counties include:

  • Escambia County
  • Santa Rosa County
  • Okaloosa County
  • Walton County
  • Bay County

The focus of the WRTP is to provide workforce training to support disaster recovery efforts. The WRTP will provide workforce training in construction occupations and customized training tailored to the specific economic revitalization needs of a particular region. The WRTP will also provide career services, including job readiness and job placement assistance, to support successful graduates of training in obtaining employment.

Support services may also be provided to remove barriers to successful participation in training or obtaining employment. Support services may include, but are not limited to, peer support programs, counseling, English to speakers of other languages, transportation assistance, childcare assistance and computer skills/digital literacy.

The total amount of funds is $5 million. The minimum an organization can receive, if selected, is $500,000. The maximum an organization can receive is $2.5 million.

Grant applications are now open and will close on May 1, 2023. Participants must complete their programs by Jan. 1, 2027.
