The public is invited to attend Escambia County Area Transit's “STEP Into Transit” event Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Rosa Parks Transit Authority Building, located at 1515 W. Fairfield Drive. During the event, ECAT will unveil three new buses, showcase building updates and promote free bus passes for youths through the Student Transit Empowerment Pass (STEP) Program. One or more Escambia County Commissioners may be in attendance during this event.
The three new 2022 Gillig buses are the first buses to be added to the fleet since 2014. Equipped with seated capacity for 23 riders and additional hand straps for riders to safely stand, each bus is Wi-Fi ready, contains automatic passenger counters, and can accommodate two wheelchairs and two bicycles.
The STEP Program will allow students under the age of 18 to ride ECAT buses at no charge year-round. STEP pass applications will be available online or in person at ECAT customer service offices. Applications must be completed by a parent or legal guardian and are valid until the end of the school year.
