Escambia County residents are encouraged to monitor potential severe weather with the enhanced risk of damaging winds, tornadoes, high surf and dangerous rip currents on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
The National Weather Service in Mobile projects wind speeds capable of damaging trees, crops, power lines and structures. Wind gusts over 60 mph are possible. There is also the possibility of tornadoes. Along with the high wind speeds, Escambia County is at a limited risk for localized flooding, particularly in low-lying and urban areas.
"With the threat of severe weather headed our way, make sure you have multiple ways of receiving weather watches and warnings," said Emergency Manager Travis Tompkins. "If a tornado warning is issued for your area, take the warning seriously and go to a safe place in your home such as an interior hallway. Make sure that you stay away from windows and don’t go outside."
Residents can sign up for Alert Escambia emergency updates through the Emergency Management website.
Citizens can also report storm-related damages. If you receive damage to your home due to the storm, please report it to the Escambia County Citizens Damage Report.
For more information, monitor the local media and legitimate online and social media sources like Escambia County Emergency Management, US National Weather Service Mobile, and Florida SERT.
