Following construction work that took place Sunday, Aug. 21, the traffic light at the intersection of Olive Road and Davis Highway has been fully rebuilt.
Work was scheduled from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., allowing enough time to ensure for successful operations of the stoplight. Work began on time at 7 a.m. and, by 8 a.m., all signal heads were removed with no overhead items remaining. Crews were able to install signals by 3 p.m. and demonstrate successful operations by 3:30 p.m. Law enforcement was present during the work period and handled peak traffic times during service dismissals at Olive Baptist Church with minimal delays.
Representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation and Escambia County were on-site mid-morning throughout completion to assist the contractor and provide support to law enforcement for traffic direction as needed. Ingram Signalization served as the contractor for this project.
“Having been a longtime resident of this area, I understand the frustration that comes when motorists experience delays at this light,” said District 4 Commissioner Robert Bender, whose district encompasses the intersection of Olive Road and Davis Highway where work took place. “Ensuring this light was in working condition was a top priority of mine. We expect this complete rebuild to prevent the signal from going into flash mode, even during moderate rainfalls. I’m thankful to our staff, the contractor crews and our partners at FDOT for working so quickly to make sure the light was in working condition.”
