On Friday, Feb. 4, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a proclamation declaring Feb. 7-11, 2022 as Florida Severe Weather Awareness Week. Throughout the week, Escambia County Emergency Management will spend each day working to increase awareness and emphasize the importance of preparedness for severe weather hazards.
Severe Weather Awareness Week is an opportunity for Escambia County citizens to learn about the various weather hazards that frequently impact the state and how families and businesses can prepare for natural events.
“During Severe Weather Awareness Week, we would like our citizens to be aware of the numerous natural disasters we can experience in Escambia County," said Public Safety Director Eric Gilmore. "We encourage our citizens to make a plan with their families and remain prepared for any significant weather events.”
Each day during Severe Weather Awareness Week will focus on a different natural disaster a Floridian can experience:
Monday, Feb. 7: Lightning
Tuesday, Feb. 8: Rip Currents
Wednesday, Feb. 9: Thunderstorms and Tornadoes
Thursday, Feb. 10: Hurricanes and Flooding
Friday, Feb. 11: Extreme Temperatures and Wildfires
