The City of Pensacola has replaced existing traffic signals with a 4-way stop at the following intersections, effective Friday, Jan. 28:

  • Government Street and Baylen Street
  • Government Street and Spring Street
The traffic signals at both intersections will remain flashing red until they are removed in the coming weeks. Drivers should use caution and approach the intersections as 4-way stops during the transition.

With the requirement to upgrade current traffic signals in downtown Pensacola, city administration is conducting traffic studies at various intersections with the Complete Streets transportation initiative in mind. Complete Streets is designed and operated to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities.

A traffic study was conducted at both intersections and found that current traffic volumes did not warrant the need for traffic signals, and could be replaced with 4-way stops. Installing 4-way stop signage will make both intersections safer for all travelers and pedestrians. Replacing the current traffic signals with 4-way stop signage is a benefit to taxpayer dollars as the cost of installation and operation is significantly less than that of new traffic signals.
