Online tools improve access to county financial information
Escambia County has partnered with OpenGov to provide online interactive tools to view the county’s finances via a Financial Transparency Portal.
When viewing the OpenGov site, members of the public can access various interactive budget reports and year-to-year comparisons on the county’s expenditures and revenues. Community members can also customize how they view and filter data. The new transparency portal includes instructions for accessing and navigating financial reports. Financials from 2011 to the current year are available and are updated daily with data being no more than one day old. In addition to offering public access to important financial information, OpenGov will help county staff streamline analysis and reporting.
"Prior to partnering with OpenGov, Escambia County relied upon spreadsheets to manage its budgeting and planning process," said Interim County Administrator Wes Moreno. "OpenGov modernizes the budgeting process by offering financial reporting tools which are available for everyone to view. Escambia County is proud to share its financial transparency portal with the public, and these tools will help the county make informed decisions about the future."
Escambia County's first interactive online budget book for the Fiscal Year 2022 proposed budget is also available online. With new interactive graphs, charts, and other data visualizations powered by OpenGov, residents are invited to explore and read the tips on how to use the new budget book.
"It's an honor to partner with Escambia County to power its online budget book and financial transparency portal," said OpenGov VP of Customer Success and Business Development Claudia Arriaga. "OpenGov applauds the county's proactive decision to modernize its budget for enhanced internal and external reporting to better serve staff and citizens."
Escambia County will begin operating under the new budget on Oct. 1, which is the start of the 2022 fiscal year. The first budget public hearing will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 5:31 p.m. at the Ernie Lee Magaha Government Building, 221 Palafox Place, BCC Chambers. The second budget public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 5:31 p.m. in the BCC Chambers.
