Escambia County is recognizing local correctional officers for National Correctional Officers Week May 2-8, 2021. Since 1984, National Correctional Officers Week, presented by President Ronald Reagan, has been celebrated nationwide each year on the first week of May.
National Correctional Officers Week commemorates the accomplishments and efforts of the dedicated public servants who keep our jails, prisons and communities safe.
"I want to personally thank our correctional officers for having the fortitude to serve our community in this often-misunderstood profession," said Escambia County Corrections Chief Rich Powell. "Thankless service is a lost art in our world today, however, without their commitment in this crucial key component of corrections within the criminal justice system, the community would be far less safe."
He added, "Their reputation of having moral courage and willingness to stand the watch that many could never do, earns each of them the utmost respect and are deserving of the highest praise. We remain vigilant, stay professional and continue to provide excellent service."
