Emergency Manager
Eric Gilmore will take on the role of interim public safety director effective Dec. 24. Additionally, Billy Shipp, Escambia County EMS operations manager, will become interim EMS manager effective Jan. 4. EMS Manager Jimmy Maddrey announced he will become a sheriff's deputy at the Escambia County Sheriff's Department.
"I am proud to serve as interim public safety director for Escambia County," said Eric Gilmore. "I understand Jason Rogers needs to tend to his family. In addition, while we are sad to see Jimmy leave our public safety department, he really stepped up as a leader during a difficult time for EMS. He will follow in his father's footsteps by serving in law enforcement, and we are glad he is staying within our community. I feel confident in Billy's abilities to lead the EMS department in the direction it needs to go."
Billy Shipp has more than 29 years of paramedic experience, including flight paramedic on helicopters and critical care. Most recently, he served as clinical director/paramedic for Medstar/Lifeguard Ambulance. He provided patient care and conducted clinical quality assurance investigations, coordinated daily needs of employees and scheduling, reviewed personnel payroll for accuracy, and coordinated new hire interviews, training and paperwork.
Shipp worked for Escambia County in 2000 as a part-time paramedic and has also worked for Baptist Hospital Life Flight, Tulsa Life Flight, Eagle Med, Oklahoma City Community College, Midwest Emergency Medical Services, Baldwin County 911, Medstar Aircare 1 and Airbus. He earned his EMT-Basic certification from Southwest College of Tech in 1990 and his paramedic certification from the University of South Alabama in 1992.
