Escambia County COVID-19 Update #148

Center for Disease Control and Prevention 

  • If you think or know you had COVID-19, and you had symptoms, you can be with others after: at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared and at least 24 hours with no fever without fever-reducing medication and symptoms have improved. For more information visit CDC’s website.

Escambia County

  • Hospital Information totals

  • Join District 1 Commissioner Jeff Bergosh at his virtual 49th Coffee with the Commissioner event Wednesday, July 22. The live stream will take place from 6:30 - 7:30 a.m. Guests will include Dr. Martha Saunders, President of the University of West Florida, Escambia County Administrator Janice Gilley and Emergency Manger Eric Gilmore. The discussion will focus on COVID-19 in Escambia County and how it is effecting the reopening of UWF for the fall semester.
  • Due to such a good response rate, OneBlood mobile center will extend their hours on Tuesday, July 28 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Escambia County building, 221 Palafox Place in the parking lot adjacent to Baylen Street between the parking garage and county building. All donors will receive a free tote bag plus COVID-19 antibody testing for all successful donors. Appointments are strongly encouraged. 

Escambia County Corrections

  • Total of 185 Escambia County inmates tested:
    • 132 positive
    • 51 negative
    • 2 pending
  • At the Walton County jail, 29 Escambia County inmates tested positive out of the 146 inmates housed there. 

Escambia County School District 

  • Superintendent Malcolm Thomas has announced he will be recommending a change in the District’s Reopening Plan, which will delay student and staff return for the 2020-2021 School Year. The first day for teachers will be Monday, Aug. 17; the first day for students will be Monday, Aug. 24. Read the press release here

Florida Department of Health in Escambia County

  • The Florida Department of Health (Department) is pleased to announce Marie Brady Mott, JD, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN, as the Health Officer and Administrator for the Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (FDOH-Escambia) effective July 24, 2020. Read the press release here.
  • FDOH-Escambia’s walk-in testing site is free to all Florida residents with or without symptoms. Pre-screening is not required. Open July 20-24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. CT at 1300 West Gregory St., Pensacola, FL 32502. Dates are subject to change due to inclement weather or shortage of supplies.   • The Florida Department of Health (the Department) issued a Public Health Advisory recommending the following: all individuals in Florida should wear face coverings in any setting where social distancing is not possible, all individuals over the age of 65 and all individuals of any age with high-risk health conditions should limit personal interactions out of the home, and all individuals should refrain from participation in social or recreational gatherings of more than 50 people.
  • As of 2 p.m., July 21, Escambia County has had 6,074 positive COVID-19 cases. This number is expected to change daily due to the return of results from ongoing testing. The best source for up-to-date information regarding confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Florida is the Florida Department of Health website and the associated Data and Surveillance Dashboard and Daily Report. The site is currently updated once daily, at around 3 p.m. ET.
  • The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Escambia County residents is 62 individuals.
  • The Department releases a list of long-term care facilities in Florida associated with COVID-19 cases with active cases and number of deaths in each facility in order to provide real-time data. The list of long-term care facilities with active COVID-19 cases is available here.
  • The Department is providing a report detailing surveillance data for every Florida county. Previously, this information was only available for select communities. The surveillance data report is available here
  • To view demographics of cases in Escambia County, visit the COVID-19 dashboard and select Escambia County. The following case data will appear: age, gender, race, and ethnicity.
