Marine Resources and UWF Deploy Argo Reef

Escambia County's Marine Resources Division and the University of West Florida deployed the Argo Reef in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday, June 7, approximately 12.5 nautical miles southeast of Pensacola Pass. 

The Argo Reef consists of the university's steel dive platform, which has been anchored for many years near the Emmanuel Point shipwreck site to support underwater archaeological research. 

The 24 x 34 foot steel platform will serve as a marine life habitat and a site for fishing and diving for the public. The Argo Reef is located within Florida state waters at a depth of 80 feet, at the following coordinates: Latitude 30° 11.962' N Longitude 87° 06.367' W.
