District 2 Commissioner Doug Underhill will be among the Pensacola-area government, business and academic leaders participating in a Cybersecurity Roundtable hosted by the Department of Homeland Security Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 9 a.m. at the University of West Florida Conference Center.
Jeanette Manfra, Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications at the Department of Homeland Security, will give opening remarks.
A group of Pensacola-area government, business and academia leaders will then join Manfra in a roundtable discussion about the challenges to building a bigger cyber workforce to meet the growing threats to the nation’s information systems. Panel members include Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward; Doug Underhill, Chairman, Escambia County Board of County Commissioners; Dr. Eman El-Sheikh, Director, Center for Cybersecurity, University of West Florida; Rita M. Lay, Gulf Power Company; Paul Lashmet, Commanding Officer of Navy Information Operations Command, Pensacola, and Ray Murphy, Chief Information Officer, Navy Federal Credit Union.
A Cyber Career Information Expo, featuring information about career and educational opportunities in this fast-growing sector, follows the roundtable, from noon to 3 p.m. Both events are open to the public.
