RESTORE Advisory Committee Considers Consulting Firm

Published May 29, 2014

The Resources, Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities and Revived Economies (RESTORE) Advisory Committee recently held a series of public meetings throughout the County.

Formed to develop a plan, solicit public input and set goals for Escambia County’s use of any funds received from the RESTORE Act due to the Deepwater Horizon event and subsequent oil spill, the Committee is tasked with reviewing projects and submitting recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners for consideration.

Each meeting was attended by the District Commissioner and the RESTORE Advisory Committee to update the public regarding the RESTORE Act process, current and past litigation, the status of the RESTORE Committee and answer resident’s questions.

As a result of these meetings and public outreach, the process to hire a consulting firm to draft the Multiyear Implementation Plan under the RESTORE Act is in progress.  Proposals from five prospective firms have been received and are under review of the selection committee, which will then be recommended to the Board of County Commissioners for approval. The firm is tentatively scheduled to be selected by July 2014.

The RESTORE Advisory Committee meetings are scheduled for the first Monday of each month from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Board Chambers, first floor, 221 Palafox Street, Pensacola. Please note the regular RESTORE meeting scheduled for Monday, June 2, has been cancelled.
