Public Invited to the Seafood Safety Symposium on April 8

The Escambia County Natural Resources Management Department and the Marine Advisory Committee will host a Seafood Safety Symposium Monday, April 8, at 5:30 p.m. at the Escambia County Central Office Complex, 3363 W. Park Place, room 104. The symposium is free to attend and open to the public.

Industry experts and agency representatives will provide both in-person and virtual presentations on topics including seafood handling, storage, advisories, and more. Panelists and their topics include:

  • Dr. Lisa Walder, UWF: Vibrio (in-person)
  • Michelle Smith, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services: Harmful algae bloom (red tide) biotoxin management plan (virtual)
  • Dr. Alison Robertson, Dauphin Island Sea Lab: Florida Keys fish phenomenon (virtual)
  • Robert Turpin, Escambia County Marine Resources: Florida Department of Health seafood advisories (in-person)
  • Keith Mille, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission: Panama City Beach monitoring on the Oriskany (virtual)
  • Dorothy Lee, UF/IFAS: Preparing Florida seafood (in-person)
