Staff has concluded the risk/benefit assessments for the 10 projects nominated by the BCC.

RESTORE projects will be discussed during the Feb. 9 Committee of the Whole beginning at 9 a.m. in the BCC Chambers, 221 Palafox Place.

The Gulf Consortium will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. (ET) at the Hillsborough County Administrative Center, located at 601 E. Kennedy Boulevard, 26^th Floor, Conference Rooms A & B, in Tampa.

Natural Resources Damage Assessment Activity

Project Updates

The Perdido Key Dune Restoration Project is moving forward. Staff is acquiring Right of Entry Agreements from eligible property owners. A planting plan will be developed in late February with planting beginning in fall 2017.
The Pensacola Bay Living Shoreline Project is close to finalizing design and engineering. In December 2016 the Florida Trustee Implementation Groupmade changes to the extent of the project. Those changes can be found here.

The Florida TIG began conducting site assessments in early January for the latest round of NRDA funding. Project selections will be announced in April.

Triumph Gulf Coast Activity

Recent Activity

The first House Select Committee on Triumph Gulf Coast was held on Jan. 12. The committee is comprised of seven Florida House members from Escambia to Franklin County. Introductory information related to RESTORE and Triumph was presented to the committee with the members agreeing infrastructure and education would be a priority. While the exact benefits of the RESTORE research projects to Escambia County can be difficult to quantify, most programs are Gulf-wide and provide an overall benefit to the county.

The Science Program will also participate in several upcoming conferences including the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Sciences Conference (February 6-9, 2017, New Orleans), State of the Gulf of Mexico Summit 2017 (March 26-28, 2017, Houston, Texas), and Gulf of Mexico Alliance All-hands (March 29-30, 2017, Houston, Texas).
