Commissioner Lumon May was first elected to serve as the commissioner for Escambia County District 3 in November 2012, and was appointed chairman from November 2013 through November 2014.  Commissioner May currently serves as chairman of the commission, chairman of the Public Safety Coordinating Council and the Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board. He is a member of the Southern Youth Sports Association, Community Action Program Committee, Inc., Juvenile Justice Council and Council on Aging.  

Commissioner May’s parents taught him that he could change the world if he could change his neighborhood. Applying that lesson to life, Commissioner May has served area youth through sports and academics for more than 25 years. He has dedicated his life to improving the lives of others. 

Commissioner May and his wife Tammie have two children, Armoni and LJ.

Commissioner May Speaks to the Large Crowd Attending the April 24 Town Hall Meeting with Local Officals

 

Sidewalks were installed on Cody Lane from Johnson Avenue to Olive Road, on Olive Road from Palafox Street to the railroad crossing, and the Old Chemstrand sidewalk/drainage project from 9 Mile Road to Johnson Avenue design began. 

 

More than 500 attended the inaugural Holiday Youth Extravaganza held at the Brownsville Community Center. The event featured performances by area youth for the community to enjoy. 

 

Seventy-six residents aged 16-20 participated in the second Escambia's Summer Youth Employment Program. The program gives local youth job readiness training and an opportunity to gain paid work experience in positions within county departments.
